DOTmed Hits 10,000 for the Second Time in Two Months!
No, this wasn't a momentous sporting feat. Instead, just like the 10,000th news article on our online news in August, DOTmed.com just launched its 10,000th Auction in September.

The Auction site posted its first listing just three years ago in 2006. The response has been strong and continues to grow stronger. Over the years, DOTmed Auctions have provided a top-of-the-line marketplace by reaching more buyers in need of the equipment our sellers are offering. Machines have been shipped in-state, state-tostate, country-to-country and even far overseas, getting needed technology to health care providers no matter where they are . . . and providing extra income for hospitals and health care facilities with unneeded equipment. Check back in a year or two for our announcement on our 20,000th Auction.
Closed Doors Provide Opportunities
Baptist Riverside Hospital of Knoxville, Tenn. recently closed their doors, leaving a lot of equipment in need of a new home. Unsure of what to do with the equipment and wanting to expedite the liquidation of assets, they contacted DOTmed.com to help market their items.
DOTmed sent a team to Baptist Riverside to inspect, photograph and catalog the 66 units to be Auctioned. After two weeks, the first Auction cycle drew to a close. The initial results were promising - a GE Light Speed Quad Slice CT Scanner, GE High Speed CT Scanner, Philips BV300 plus C-Arm, OEC 9600 C-Arm, and a GE InstaTrak 3500 X-ray Generator were all purchased.
The remaining auctions are still running on DOTmed.com and can be viewed under the Baptist Riverside Hospital Closure Virtual Auction House.
Clearing the Shelves
A health care facility in Utah approached DOTmed with a unique problem. They regularly work with DOTmed to sell equipment, but felt they were unlikely to make a sale in this case.
They had five rolling medical shelves freshly de-installed at one of their locations. They had purchased the shelves in 2006, but they were still in excellent shape. The facility was hoping to get $3,000 to $4,000 for the shelves, knowing the shipping alone would be prohibitively costly. They had personally shopped them around for sale and received no interest. Basically, they realized everyone is gearing up for the possible introduction of laws requiring health care facilities in the United States to convert their medical records from paper files to digital. Few people would have need for physical filing systems.
Luckily, they took their troubles to DOTmed. DOTmed Auction Manager Colm Ford quickly worked to put together an Auction highlighting the shelves. The Auction ran successfully and the shelves sold for $6,000 - much more than the original target price. Colm followed through with a customs broker and freight forwarder to get them to their new location in Canada.
At the end of the day, a doctor was able to buy almost brand new shelving for his practice for significantly less than new while the sellers were able to walk away with more than they had hoped for.
