IBA has announced yet another installation contract for its multi-room proton therapy system, ProteusPLUS.

The company signed an agreement with an Argentine company called INVAP, which specializes in designing complex technological systems. Together the two organizations will bring proton therapy to the Instituto de Oncologia Angel Roffo hospital in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

"This new contract demonstrates the growing global appeal of proton therapy and IBA's continuing successful penetration of emerging markets," said Olivier Legrain, CEO of IBA, in a statement. "We are very proud to have been selected to install the first proton therapy center in Latin America and to be playing an important role in bringing such innovative cancer treatment modalities to patients in Argentina."

The new facility will feature pencil beam scanning capabilities, and have two rooms. One room will be for treatment and the other will be for research and development.

All told, the equipment and services provided by IBA, (which include a maintenance agreement) are estimated to be worth somewhere between $39 and $45 million.

A statement from IBA indicates that the installation is part of the implementation of the Nuclear Medicine National Plan, a plan by the Argentine government to invest in infrastructure and equipment designed to ensure free access to the highest standards in prevention, treatment, research and training in nuclear medicine and oncology.

The center is slated to treat its first patient at the end of 2018.
