After eight years, Mary Logan will be stepping down as president and CEO of AAMI and Robert D. Jensen, a longtime executive in the health care industry, will be the next to take the post.

The board of directors announced their decision on Friday morning.

Jensen, a former U.S. Marine, has been with the MITRE Corporation since 2003 and established the MITRE Center for Transforming Health. He currently serves as vice president and director of the CMS Alliance to Modernize Healthcare Federally Funded Research and Development Center.

About 10 months ago, Logan announced that she planned to retire just ahead of the association’s 50-year anniversary in 2017. Jensen will officially start on November 14 and Logan will end her tenure with AAMI at the end of the year, during the overlap period Logan will support Jensen while he becomes acclimated to the new position.

On Friday, Logan sent an email to AAMI staff that mentioned that Jensen had been personally decorated five times during his service in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he served as an officer in data systems and logistics.

This change in leadership comes at a crucial point in the association’s history as health care technology is rapidly changing and putting new training demands on those in the field. Industry mergers are affecting the association’s membership and the Internet has forced all associations to display their value to members in new ways.

Jensen said that he’s ready for the new challenge. “I look forward to getting started and having the chance to work alongside Mary while I learn the ropes of the organization,” he said in a statement.
