Varian announced on Monday that it acquired the radiation oncology quality assurance software company Mobius Medical Systems for an undisclosed amount.
“This [acquisition] enables a seamless integration of QA processes into treatment workflows, and allows Varian to ensure the pace of QA development matches the pace of treatment technology innovations and clinical protocol advancements,” Kolleen Kennedy, president of Varian’s Oncology Systems business, told HCB News.
This deal will expand Varian’s portfolio of treatment plans QA and machine QA technologies. The Mobius QA software is in use at more than 1,000 facilities globally.

Mobius3D is a 3-D dose verification and treatment delivery QA system for intensity-modulated radiation therapy and volumetric modulated arc radiotherapy.
It provides medical physicists with modular staged testing to ensure the patient plan and treatment delivery are on track. Mobius also offers its DoseLab software for quality assurance of medical linear accelerators.
Kennedy stated that there will be no changes made to the locations of the Mobius offices. The company’s management team is currently being integrated into Varian’s oncology business.
