San Francisco, Calf. -- GE Healthcare highlighted a series of breakthrough Computed Tomography (CT) products at the 9th Annual International Symposium on Multidetector-Row CT, June 13-16 in San Francisco, sponsored by Stanford Radiology. GE Healthcare and its clinical partners around the world have created new, advanced CT procedure possibilities, with technical and clinical innovations that have transformed how and when clinicians use CT. Among the new technologies highlighted at the symposium:
LightSpeed™ VCT XT is the industry's first-ever computed tomography (CT) scanner that achieves uncompromised image quality while reducing a patient's exposure dose by up to 70 percent for diagnostic cardiac scans is now commercially available. The LightSpeed VCT XT also introduces the capability to double the coverage to 80mm for neuro perfusion studies including angiographic information with a single exam and contrast injection. The LightSpeed VCT XT continues to build on the foundation of GE's highly successful LightSpeed VCT platform, capable of capturing images of the heart and coronary arteries in as few as five heartbeats.
"I believe that this represents the biggest clinical breakthrough in the field of cardiac CT since the introduction of 64 slice CT," said James K. Min, M.D., New York-Presbyterian Hospital Division of Cardiology, Echocardiology, Assistant Professor of Medicine, Weill Medical College of Cornell University.
For the more than 1,500 LightSpeed VCT systems currently installed, GE announced that an in-room upgrade is now available allowing current users the ability to expand their clinical capabilities of 5-Beat™ Cardiac and volume CT with the new, low dose heart imaging and increased neuro perfusion coverage capabilities.
GE's Advantage Workstation ® (AW) announces its latest advanced image visualization and analysis tool, AW VolumeShare 2. AW VolumeShare 2 is built on the trusted Advantage Workstation platform and delivers state of the art 64 bit technology. This technology allows the Advantage Workstation to process large data sets enabling more accurate diagnosis using thin slice CT data. In addition, the new hardware features two dual core processors to provide a significant increase in performance. Image storage capacity has also been doubled to allow for more optimized workflow, particularly with multi slice CT data sets.
Advantage Workstation is also showcasing the new cardiovascular clinical application, Autobone Xpress. Autobone Xpress is optional software that decreases the time to first clinically relevant images by offering 0-click bone removal and 1-click calcification removal. The optimized layouts for each anatomy provided fast and relevant visualization for the latest CTA acquisition techniques. The capabilities on GE's new AW VolumeShare 2 provide diagnostic tools for computed tomography (CT), positron emission tomography (PET), magnetic resonance (MR), X-ray, Vascular, Mammography, and other modalities to optimize workflow while providing optimized image quality, applications flexibility, reliability and speed. GE's proven AW delivers fast and clinically effective 2-D, 3-D and 4-D post processing solutions to help handle the increasing diagnostic and workflow needs of today's imaging departments.
