ABBOTSFORD, BRITISH COLUMBIA, June 20, 2007 -- GE Healthcare will provide more than $30 million in equipment and services to the Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre, scheduled to open for patients in summer 2008. GE Healthcare was uniquely positioned to help identify the various needs of the hospital and meet them with equipment that is among the most innovative and technologically advanced on the market.
GE Healthcare's teams created a specialized package for Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre that included all needed products in one bundle, including transitional, educational and consulting services, helping the hospital to better streamline their operations, allowing staff to save time and bringing greater focus to frontline patient care.
The partnership was announced at a product exhibition where hospital staff was invited to view the new equipment. The joint announcement was made by The Honourable George Abbott, Minister of Health, British Columbia and Joe Sardi, Country General Manager, GE Healthcare, Canada. Both recognized the leadership and hard work of the Fraser Health Authority, Provincial Health Services Authority, the BC Cancer Agency, Access Health Abbotsford, the private sector partner on the project, Partnerships BC and the Fraser Valley Regional Hospital District.

Equipment incorporated in the deal will aid Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre healthcare professionals in all facets of patient care - including physiological monitoring, surgical suites, cardiology devices, medical imaging and maternal and infant care.
Once completed, Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre will be a 300-bed facility offering the most advanced and specialized care in the region. It is designed to serve the needs of the more than 150,000 people in the greater Abbotsford area as well as the 330,000 people in the surrounding Fraser Valley region.
