UChicago Medicine, PMB are building a $121 million multispecialty care center and micro-hospital in Crown Point, Indiana.
Healthcare real estate developer PMB and The University of Chicago Medicine have set to work building a $121 million, two-story, multispecialty care center and micro-hospital in Crown Point, Indiana.
The 130,000-square-foot building will be UChicago Medicine’s largest off-site facility and its first free-standing building in the state, equipped to provide emergency, cancer care, medical imaging, surgical and lab services.
Once operational, the center is expected to schedule over 110,000 patient visits each year. Plans to build it were announced in October 2021 and later expanded in size from 116,000 to 130,000 square feet.

The facility is expected to open in the spring of 2024. "We wanted to be able to offer people in Crown Point the same level of care that we do in Hyde Park on Chicago's South Side — and to make it more accessible and convenient for them,” said Dr. Kenneth Polonsky, executive vice president for medical affairs at the University of Chicago and president of the UChicago Medicine health system, in a statement.
The Crown Point care center will have an eight-bed emergency department and a short-stay inpatient unit. Its comprehensive cancer center will offer infusion therapy, radiation, medical and surgical oncology, and its imaging center will house MR, CT, PET, X-ray and ultrasound modalities.
It also will have an outpatient surgery center and laboratory services, as well as medical offices for physicians and specialists in cancer care, cardiology, digestive diseases, orthopedics, neurosciences, pediatrics, primary care, surgical specialties, transplant care and women's health.
The facility is expected to create at least 150 high-paying clinical and nonclinical jobs. Its use expands UChicago Medicine’s regional presence, which already has smaller medical offices in Northwest Indiana, including Munster, Merrillville, Westville and Schererville.
