Getinge has acquired surgical reprocessing device company Ultra Clean Systems for $16 million (170 million SEK), giving it control over services for hundreds of units installed across the U.S.

Ultra Clean Systems uses ultrasonic cleaning technologies in hospitals and surgery centers to decontaminate surgical instruments. The technique, which involves using high-frequency ultrasound waves that are transmitted through liquid to thoroughly clean objects, is a critical part of best practices for reprocessing medical solutions and preventing hospital acquired infections (HAIs) in many countries.

"With the development of robotic surgery and minimally invasive surgery, healthcare providers need to reprocess more complex instruments and endoscopes," Stéphane Le Roy, president of surgical workflows at Getinge, told HCB News. "Moreover, the need for productivity in the healthcare systems will continue to drive consolidation into larger SPD units, and likely the adoption of automation solutions to increase throughput and improve work conditions for operators."

Based in Tampa, Ultra Cleaning Systems has an annual revenue of over $8 million (90 million SEK), as of 2022. Getinge has been its exclusive distributor in North America for nearly a decade.

The company’s products include its Triton Series ultrasonic cleaning systems; ultrasonic floor models; tabletop monitor cleaners; its detergent, Sanizyme; and accessories such as trays, carts, side cabinets and backsplashes.
