The extremely tragic
situation in Darfur
has not received the
press coverage or
public support it needs
As the holiday spirit sets in, it’s important to remember those who are less fortunate than ourselves. To date, more than 400,000 people have been killed in the Darfur genocide, and at least 2 million people have been forced to flee from their homes.
Many people are currently living in displaced persons camps throughout the region. Unable to leave the camps for food and water, diseases like Hepatitis and Cholera have become widespread. Diarrhea is increasing rapidly; skin diseases are multiplying; some of the children already have respiratory tract infections.
Victims in Darfur are completely dependent upon international aid.
Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has been providing relief to the ill, has set up fixed and mobile health clinics, and is distributing plastic sheets, blankets, and food.
